- The Philoxenia Camp, is an emergency refugee camp, emblematically placed at the Theatre of Dionysus on the Ancient Greek Acropolis. The prefabricated modular units of the camp follow the pattern of Le Corbusier’s Cabanon, wrapped by thermal first aid blankets. These sustainable accommodations, are not only low-cost and easy-to-transport constructions, but they also rely on solar energy and wind power, providing integrated eco conditions of everyday life, achieving a synthesis between the needs of their occupants and the environmental needs, leading to a green architecture right in the center of Athens, with the highest level of sustainability possible.
- What role the Philoxenia Camp plays inside and outside the ship? What kind of interactivities are going to be hosted on this participatory platform that praises the notion of hospitality (Philoxenia means hospitality in Greek)?
- The notion of hospitality is at the heart of the project Philoxenia camp initiated by the artist Nikos Charalambidis. Its extension within the framework of the project of the Navire avenir, consists in installing a part of the camp and a selection of its modular units on the ship – as a space of reception, of discussions, such a space of a democratic Agora, a forum which will concern all the passengers of the ship in parallel with participatory workshops. Each time the ship arrives at a port, the mobile Philoxenia camp could be set up also outside the ship. It would thus constitute an open forum where discussions could be organized, while at the same time, artists and other volunteers could be invited to join forces in a variety of activities and workshops, raising awareness to the public.

- The Philoxenia camp, within the Navire avenir is held in collaboration beteween the Research Unit UR 4291 : CRAE (Centre de recherches en art et esthétique) of the UPJV (Université de Picardie Jules Verne) and the 2nd Sculpture Laboratory of ASFA (Athens School of Fine Arts) under the responsibility of Nikos Charalambidis. The participating students have already carried out projects as well as the artists Barthélémy Toguo and Socratis Socratous who have been invited to join the Philoxenia project.
